Thank you for being a voice of reason and science on this and other comprehension issues. Those who decide the curriculum teachers are required to use need to be asked to pay attention. Those who want schools to be effective need to pay attention.

This is an interesting perspective - while you point out the objections of left and right, I can readily understand why the "right" is being so aggressive. Many of us relatively recently discovered how deeply left-wing ideologies have become embedded in our schools systems, K-12, while we had thought this was something that happened only in universities. I live in a district where this is the case - and even when presented with the documentary evidence, many parents think it's not happening in their child's classroom and are shocked when they talk with their own children. The Moms For Liberty sprang up quickly - and there was a rush to join. The waiting list at a Catholic school mushroomed and they quickly raised money to expand. The home-schooling has taken off as well. I can readily see how vacuous content can hinder reading capabilities - but that puts the schools between a rock and a hard place. No easy answers, especially since the left has been able to glide through the school doors and now the right will fight tooth and nail.
